Since 1978, the Institute of Nutrition has provided services supporting nutrition and food safety, including research on a Thai food composition database. This unit is staffed by academics and scientists trained in food analysis at many internationally-renowned institutes, such as TNO in The Netherlands; the Institute of Food Research in Norwich, England; and the National Measurement Institute, Australia.

The Institute’s laboratories provide analytical services to public and private agencies, providing analysis of nutrients and non-nutrients, food additives and chemical contaminants, microbial qualities, physical and chemical properties of food, and biochemical assessment, according to the Food Act of the Ministry of Public Health. INMU has been recognized by the Food and Drug Administration of the Ministry of Public Health as a laboratory that can perform statutory food sample analysis. The laboratory can currently offer more than 25 different types of analysis.

INMU is also the first agency in Thailand offering analytical services for the preparation of both USA and Thai nutrition labeling and provides training programs on food analysis and nutrition labeling. The expertise of our staff in developing laboratory methods and practices also allows INMU to research and develop food reference samples for use in laboratory analysis.

Since 2008, our laboratory’s analyses of various parameters has been certified as compliant with the internationally-recognized standard ISO/IEC 17025: 2005. Recently, INMU has expanded the scope of its analysis and food matrices and the laboratory has been accredited with complying with the latest ISO/IEC 17025: 2017 standard.
