On December 23, 2024, Dr. Pradtana Tapanee, Program Director of the Master’s Degree Program in Nutrition and Dietetics at the Institute of Nutrition, Mahidol University, participated in the press conference titled “Reduce Sodium, Reduce NCDs Risk.” The event was organized by the Salt Reduction Network, the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth), and the Division of Non-communicable Diseases, Department of Disease Control, at TK Palace Hotel & Convention, Bangkok.
During the event, Dr. Pradtana presented the findings from a project investigating the relationship between salt perception levels and sodium intake. The study involved 24-hour urine collection in adults and was supported by the Salt Reduction Network.
The research results suggest that measuring salt perception levels can be a useful tool for assessing sodium consumption risks. This approach could contribute to developing effective preventive measures, improving nutrition counseling strategies, and serving as an indicator for monitoring behavioral changes following nutrition education interventions.
