Harvard University and Mahidol University Research and Training Joint Unit held a workshop on “Standardization of biomarker to predict nutritional status of population in Low- and Middle-Income countries”

On August 15, 2023 Harvard University and Mahidol University Research and Training Joint Unit held a workshop on “Standardization of biomarker to predict nutritional status of population in Low- and Middle-Income countries”, which was a collaborative project between the Institute of Nutrition and SEAMEO RECFON, during August 15-16, 2023 at Aree Valyasevi Meeting Room, Institute of Nutrition. Mahidol University. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chalat Santivarangkna, Director of the Institute of Nutrition presided over the opening ceremony of workshop.
In this regard, The project aims to produce a global model laboratory that will inform similar efforts in other LMICs for efficiently measuring a panel of key nutrition-related biomarkers with a high level of quality control that is more readily standardized over time and across countries, and that is more sensitive to some aspects of diet that are challenging to assess through intake measurement. The development of regional or a few global centers that could efficiently measure a panel of nutrition-related biomarkers with a high level of quality control would contribute greatly to monitoring and assessing diet quality, and the effects of fortification programs globally. Hence INMU would like to established the center for micronutrient analysis and become a training center in SEA.
