Prof. Dr. Warangkana Srichamnong, Deputy Director for Collaboration Networks and Academic Services, INMU and Dr. Sabri Bromage, Researcher, INMU and Member, Mahidol University Global Talent Program attended the Periodic Table of Food Initiative (PTFI) Centers of Excellence (CoE) Workshop hosted by the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) in Addis Ababa

       Assoc. Prof. Dr. Warangkana Srichamnong, Deputy Director for Collaboration Networks and Academic Services, INMU and Dr. Sabri Bromage, Researcher, INMU and Member, Mahidol University Global Talent Program attended the Periodic Table of Food Initiative (PTFI) Centers of Excellence (CoE) Workshop hosted by the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from December 12-14. Primarily funded by The Rockefeller Foundation, PTFI is applying standardized approaches to generate multi-omics food composition data for key regional food samples at nine PTFI CoE laboratories around the world, one of which is located at EPHI and another (the PTFI Asia CoE) of which is located at Mahidol University. At the Workshop, Asia CoE Principal Investigator Dr. Warangkana and Co-Investigator Dr. Sabri represented the CoE’s progress in collecting regional food samples; onboarding ionomics, lipidomics, and metabolomics food analysis methods; and planning upcoming research and training activities under PTFI.

        Following the Workshop, Drs. Warangkana and Sabri gave additional presentations at EPHI on “Southeast Asia regional research and capacity building in nutrition” and “Methods for nutritional and statistical analysis of diets in surveillance and epidemiology”, respectively, as part of the EU-funded National Information Platforms for Nutrition (NIPN) seminar series. They also met with EPHI Director for Food Science and Nutrition Dr. Masresha Tessema, the Principal Investigator of the PTFI Ethiopia CoE Dr. Endale Amare, and Nutrition Manager for UNICEF Ethiopia Dr. Ramadhani Abdallah Noor to discuss potential avenues of cooperation in nutrition and food composition research and capacity building between INMU, EPHI, and UNICEF.
